Tucked away in the calmness of Ascot Vale Road, Ascot Food Store sits comfortably in its own little corner, humbly operating as if the hustle and bustle that surrounds it is non-existent. Having visited the cafe on more occasions than most locals, the cosy little brunch spot has easily made it into the books as a favourite.
This time, a quick pit stop before running a day full of errands called for the 62 degree egg with shaved grana, pickled truffle and brioche soldiers. To say that this dish went down well would be an understatement; the richness of the flavours were to die for.
Despite being a bit of a challenge to eat, the brioche and egg, together with the shaved gana and pickled truffle, was such an amazing combination that it was definitely worth the struggle. Seriously – who can resist an explosion of salty and sweet with oozy egg and fluffy bread textures?
The other dish we opted for was the corn fritters with avocado puree, tomato jam topped with a poached egg. It may sound like a staple brunch dish, but like the amazing 62 degree egg, this one was packed with complimenting flavours.
With a breadth of insanely delicious dishes on the menu, and a generous selection of donuts and pastries that can only be described with heart eye emojis, Ascot Food Store is literally where it’s at.
