For the whole of May – June, Lulie St Tavern in Abbotsford is teaming up with a series of insanely delicious food trucks to host what they’ve labelled Cluster Truck.
Having the pleasure of being invited by Rick, the man behind The Snag Society, we happily popped in and downed a few tasty gourmet dogs.
Inspired by the classic New York Hot Dog cart, The Snag Society is a stand that specialises in creating hotdogs with a twist.
With an array of flavours that encapsulate cultural diversity, with hot dog flavours ranging from “The Aussie” all the way through to “The Brit”, we were told that “The Chinese” was by far the most challenging to create.
Despite the cross cultural references and New York influences, The Snag Society stays true to Australian traditions by cooking the snags old fashioned way; on the barbie.
On the night, we were lucky enough to scoff down The American, The German and The Mexican. All these hotdogs demonstrated fantastic flavours and truly reflected their respective countries. The brioche buns were soft and sweet – really unexpected from a humble stand, and there was definitely no mistaking that the sausages were indeed gourmet.
Our personal favourite from the night was The Mexican – interesting and surprisingly unexpected with its spicy kick and crunchy texture thanks to the addition of crushed tortilla chips.
The Snag Society was a nice twist on the humble hotdog, and we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for their cart on the streets of Melbourne.
